Enter the Void Analysis

SCENE CLIP

A wide point of view shot is what is used to convey a simple mise –en – scene. When the protagonist moves into the bathroom, high key intensified lighting is visible which exposes him in a natural style, connoting his state of mind. Lighting effects and fades are used to present the protagonist as the camera, therefore these lighting effects is iconic to blinking. A voice over, first person narrative dialogue is used to make the film personal and subjective. The scene then goes into a tilted head and shoulder shot that reflects the protagonist through a mirror to allow the audience to see the physical representation of the protagonist. There is then a close up of hands in sink accompanied by the diegetic sound of the running tap conveying a realistic mise – en – scene. Shadow fades are used when we see him tapping his head, so that the same effect is projected onto the camera. The diegetic sound of the doorbell leads to a change to low key lighting as the protagonist doesn’t want to be seen. A sweeping shot is used as he walks to the door, which is voyeuristic.
